Vice Provost for International Affairs Search Announcement
I am pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Carola Weil as our new vice provost for international affairs, effective August 24, 2026. Selected through a highly competitive national search, Dr. Weil brings distinguished experience in global education, strategic partnerships and cross-cultural leadership.
Dr. Weil joins us from McGill University, where she served as dean of Continuing Studies for the past eight years. During her tenure, she successfully led initiatives that significantly strengthened the global presence of the university, including through collaborative educational and research partnerships with international organizations, universities and the private sector; and promoted innovative approaches to international education for adult learners and historically underrepresented populations.
As vice provost for international affairs, Dr. Weil will oversee the Global Programs and Strategy Alliance, working closely with deans, faculty and University leadership to advance our internationalization priorities. Her leadership vision aligns well with our commitment to preparing students to thrive in an interconnected world and supporting a globally engaged academic community.
I extend my sincere gratitude for the rigorous and thoughtful work of the search committee, chaired by Dean GerShun Avilez of the College of Liberal Arts. I also want to thank Assistant Vice Provost Molly Portz for her interim leadership of the GPS Alliance.
Please join me in warmly welcoming Dr. Carola Weil to the University of Minnesota community.
Sincerely,
Gretchen Ritter
Executive Vice President and Provost
