Announcing the vice president for strategic enrollment management

July 16, 2026

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Jack Miner as the University of Minnesota's inaugural vice president for strategic enrollment management, effective September 14, 2026. This appointment is pending Board of Regents review, which is expected at the Board’s July 22 meeting.

Following a rigorous national search, Miner emerged as the leader best positioned to help advance the University's vision for unified enrollment across our five campuses. Throughout his career, he has demonstrated a deep commitment to expanding educational opportunity, removing barriers to student success and ensuring students are supported from their first interaction with the University through graduation. Those hallmarks align closely with our land-grant mission to serve learners, families and communities across Minnesota and beyond.

Miner joins us from the University of Cincinnati, where he serves as vice provost for enrollment management. Before that, he spent nearly three decades at The Ohio State University, helping improve student outcomes and advance initiatives that made higher education more accessible and affordable. His leadership extends well beyond his own institutions. He is a past president of the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers, and has advised state and federal leaders on issues ranging from transfer pathways and student data to degree attainment and higher education policy. He earned a master’s in public policy and bachelor’s in political science from The Ohio State University.

As vice president for strategic enrollment management, Miner will advance the University Strategic Enrollment Plan approved by the Board of Regents in June to establish a cohesive, future-focused and data-informed framework for our entire enrollment enterprise. What stood out throughout the search process was his collaborative leadership style, strategic vision and unwavering commitment to students. He understands that when enrollment management is built on a foundation of shared trust and shared vision, universities can create pathways to opportunity, support student success and sustain thriving campuses that contribute to a stronger University as a whole.

We greatly appreciate the members of the search committee, co-chaired by Nicola Alexander, associate dean in the College of Education and Human Development, and Paul Hanstedt, vice chancellor of academic affairs on the Rochester campus, for their thoughtful work throughout this process. We are also grateful to the faculty, staff, students and leaders from across the University whose perspectives helped inform the search and shape the leadership qualities we sought for this important inaugural role.

Please join us in welcoming Jack Miner to the University of Minnesota community. We look forward to working with him as we build on our momentum and expand opportunities for students across Minnesota.

Sincerely,

Gretchen Ritter
