Announcing our next vice provost and dean for undergraduate education
Dear colleagues,
I am pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Amy Pittenger as vice provost and dean for undergraduate education, effective September 28, 2026, pending Board of Regents approval.
Selected through a competitive internal search, Amy brings a broad record of University leadership and a student-centered approach to her work. She also brings a clear vision for the future of undergraduate education and a commitment to creating an experience that prepares our students to thrive in a changing world.
Through her leadership in the College of Pharmacy, where she previously served as interim dean, and in her current role as interim vice provost and dean, she has built a strong reputation as a principled leader who brings people together and approaches complex challenges with care and purpose.
Amy is also an accomplished scholar of educational innovation, with scholarship spanning diverse learners and modalities. Her extensive leadership in curriculum development, assessment and interprofessional and experiential learning reflects a commitment to enriching the educational experience. Her contributions have been further recognized through University honors for outstanding service, distinguished teaching and meaningful contributions to shared governance. She has also served as chair of the Faculty Consultative Committee and faculty liaison to the provost.
As vice provost and dean, Dr. Pittenger will lead the University’s undergraduate education strategy, overseeing the Office of Undergraduate Education and partnering with collegiate and campus leaders to advance student success, curricular innovation and undergraduate policy.
As the needs and expectations of our students evolve, we have an opportunity to think boldly about how we educate, support and prepare the next generation. Amy’s visionary and collaborative leadership will help us build on what is working and embrace new possibilities.
Thank you to our search committee, chaired by Senior Advisor Scott Lanyon, for the considerable time and energy devoted to this important process. I also appreciate the exceptional group of finalists who engaged in the search and to the many members of our University community who contributed their perspectives along the way.
Please join me in congratulating Dr. Pittenger on her appointment as vice provost and dean for undergraduate education.
Sincerely,
Gretchen Ritter
Executive Vice President and Provost
