
Assistant/Associate Vice Provost for Professional Education (Internal Search)
Applications and nominations are invited from members of the University system faculty and academic professionals for the position of assistant/associate vice provost for professional education. This position is a 25-50%-time annually renewable appointment, held concurrently with the candidate’s present University position, with an anticipated term of three years. The beginning date is the start of the spring 2025 semester or as soon as possible thereafter. Terms and conditions, including the percent of appointment, start date, and appointment classification (assistant or associate) are negotiable depending upon background, experience, prior commitments and responsibilities of the selected candidate.
This new academic leadership role, reporting to the Vice Provost for Graduate Education, will be responsible for coordinating, representing, and advocating for the Post Baccalaureate Professional Education community in partnership with the Provost's Office and the Graduate School. This successful candidate will chair and work on behalf of and in partnership with the Provost’s Professional Education Council, and work on behalf of and in partnership with the University’s Professional Education community to leverage strengths of the University’s professional schools and programs to accomplish shared goals and strategic initiatives.
The successful candidate will be expected to develop a thorough understanding of the breadth and depth of professional programs at the University and collaborate with faculty, instructional staff, students, and academic leaders to develop and deepen connections across academic programs and colleges/schools/campuses and represent the University’s vast professional education portfolio, in Minnesota and nationally. This work will include identifying and advancing strategies, best practices, and policies to strengthen academic program synergies while leveraging system expertise.
The position will facilitate work that will build on the recommendations and existing efforts of the University’s Professional Education Council and draw on support and resources in the Provost’s Office. This individual will represent the professional education community on the EVPP senior leadership team by attending the monthly in-person Vice Provosts meetings as well as regular 1:1 meetings together with the Provost and the Vice Provost for Graduate Education. They will build and maintain relationships with collegiate and program leaders in the professional schools. Additionally, this position will work with the Office of Distributed Learning to identify and facilitate opportunities for new online and hybrid professional education programs across professional schools. This individual will support strategic commitments that complement system-wide and campus-specific planning for, and on behalf of, the professional education community.

This position requires an experienced collaborative leader with academic administrative and/or governance experience and a record of advancing educational excellence and innovation in post-baccalaureate professional education. The position is open to both current faculty members and academic professionals engaged in advancement of teaching and learning in post-baccalaureate professional education. Salary and appointment title as Assistant/Associate vice provost will be commensurate with background and experience.
Essential Qualifications:
- Terminal degree (e.g. Ph.D., J.D., Ed.D., M.D.)
- Academic administrative and/or University governance experience.
- Demonstrated excellence and success with teaching and learning in a post-baccalaureate professional education setting.
- Experience collaborating effectively with faculty, academic administrators, and higher education partners.
- Demonstrated record of advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience working across disciplines and units.
- Experience in professional education administrative leadership roles (e.g. associate dean, program director).
- Demonstrated leadership experience with professionally accredited units.
