December 8, 2015: Applications and Nominations Invited for Vice Provost and Dean of Graduate Education

Dear Colleagues,

I invite applications and nominations of tenured full professors for the position of vice provost and dean of graduate education. This is a newly reconfigured leadership position that reflects the realignment of our institutional support for graduate and professional education, as detailed in my October 8 email to the University community.

The vice provost and dean of graduate education will work to advance the quality, reputation, stature, and goals of research-based graduate education. This person will also be responsible for the effective oversight and administration of the Graduate School. As a member of the provost’s senior team, this vice provost will work in collaboration with faculty and collegiate/campus leadership to set strategic priorities and sustain policies that advance excellence in graduate education. The position requires an experienced and visionary faculty member with strengths and interest in both academic strategy and management. The successful candidate should have distinguished academic credentials, a proven commitment to institutional service and collaboration, sound judgment, and excellent administrative skills.

The position is a 12-month, 100%-time, academic administrative appointment. The beginning date is during spring semester or before the start of fall semester 2016. Terms and conditions are negotiable, depending upon the prior commitments and responsibilities of the selected candidate. Candidates must have an earned rank of full professor with a distinguished record of academic achievement; experience working with graduate students and graduate education; a minimum of 3 years of experience as a department head/chair or other academic administrative position; and other qualifications outlined in the position description.

I have convened a search committee, chaired by Dean Steven Crouch, to help identify and screen candidates for this University leadership position. Applications will be reviewed beginning January 15 and accepted until the position is filled. To apply, please send a letter of application, curriculum vitae, and contact information for three professional references to [email protected]. To nominate a colleague, please send a letter of nomination and a brief statement of the nominee’s qualifications for the position to [email protected].

Thank you for considering either nominating a colleague or applying for this important position.

Sincerely,

Karen Hanson
Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost
