Humphrey School leadership transition

Dear Colleagues:

Dean and Professor Laura Bloomberg has announced that she will step down as dean of the Humphrey School of Public Affairs at the end of the academic year in June 2021. In the coming weeks, we will launch a national search for a new dean to build on Dean Bloomberg’s leadership and continue to advance the Humphrey School as one of the country’s most innovative, engaged, and highly regarded professional schools of public policy and planning.

Since becoming dean in 2017, and immediately prior as associate dean for four years, Dean Bloomberg has further advanced the excellence of the school as among the country’s top 10 professional public policy and planning schools. In particular, she led efforts to support the global expansion of the Humphrey School, established a national pathway program for college students underrepresented in public affairs programs, launched a Master of Human Rights degree program, and developed the Mandela Washington Fellowship program to support young leaders from countries across Africa. She also launched and led the school's successful multi-year "Leading Together" fundraising campaign.

I look forward to working with Dean Bloomberg and the Humphrey School leadership team over the next several months as we launch a national search and prepare to welcome the next dean by the start of the fall semester.

Please join me in thanking Dean Bloomberg for her leadership and dedication to the Humphrey School’s success, and for her service to the University.

Sincerely yours,

Rachel T.A. Croson
Executive Vice President and Provost
