Implications of curfew for in-person class meetings

Dear Twin Cities faculty and instructors, chairs/heads, and deans:

This afternoon Governor Walz announced a 7:00 p.m. curfew tonight for Ramsey, Hennepin, and Anoka counties, effective through 6 a.m. tomorrow morning. A recent message from President Gabel puts the Twin Cities campus on reduced operations starting at 5:00 p.m. tonight.

All instructors with a class that is scheduled to be taught in-person or hybrid tonight at a time that might overlap with the curfew will need to adjust their classes. Because the curfew may prevent students from attending an evening class (or getting home afterward), please either cancel the class, or transition the class to a distanced delivery modality for tonight.

As President Gabel wrote in messages earlier today, the fatal shooting yesterday of Daunte Wright compounds the trauma that so many members of the University community are feeling during the Chauvin trial. As we continue to process and mourn for and with the broader community, please continue to seek out resources that may provide support for you and also help to build on our collective commitment to build a more just, equitable, and safe community.

Please watch for further announcements from the University as the situation continues to develop quickly.

Sincerely yours,

Rachel T.A. Croson
Executive Vice President and Provost
