Reminder about in-person and blended courses

Dear Twin Cities faculty and instructors,

On Friday afternoon, we sent the following information to instructors of undergraduate in-person or blended courses, reminding them of the change in modality planned for Monday and the face coverings policy. I wanted to be sure that everyone had this information, so am resending the message (see below) to all faculty and instructors.

If you are teaching undergraduates this semester in remote or online modalities, or teaching graduate or professional students, please continue as you have been. If you are not teaching this semester, we share this for your information.

I'm grateful for all of your efforts in delivering outstanding education, discovery, outreach and service during this unprecedented time.

Sincerely,

Rachel T.A. Croson
Executive Vice President and Provost

Now that we have successfully completed the first two weeks of the semester online, I want to confirm that all courses originally scheduled to be in-person or blended can now resume as planned. Starting Monday, September 21, you may return to the classrooms assigned to your course or courses.

As a reminder, please be sure to carry your U Card on campus since most buildings are on “University hours,” which means only University faculty, staff, and students may enter by swiping their U Cards at entrances with readers. In addition:

  • In nearly all situations, instructors and students are required to wear a face covering during an in-person class. Instructors can request from their departments a transparent face shield that can be used when teaching.
  • Faculty and instructors who wish to address a student who is not wearing a face covering should review and follow the steps outlined by the Office of Community Standards.
  • Individuals who cannot wear face coverings because of health or disability reasons are exempted from this policy, but should contact the Disability Resource Center to explore alternative accommodations.

These classroom protocols and other instructional resources are gathered on the Instructor Topics page within MyU.

Students will be receiving a similar reminder from One Stop Student Services, but as always, we recommend communicating directly with your enrolled students about your course modalities and expectations.

Thank you for all you have done to ensure our University of Minnesota students have had a productive start to the semester.
